Pinocchio at Florida Atlantic University: A Celebration of the Arts and Community.

"Italy in Transit" is an annual symposium hosted by the Italian program at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) in Boca Raton, Florida.

The event is designed as a professional and academic meeting that invites guests to share their research about Italy. It is a fluid space where identities cross and new encounters are shaped. This symposium in winter is considered the best time to be in Florida, making it an attractive event for scholars, students, and anyone interested in Italian studies and cultural exchanges.

Last year, The VII International Symposium, "Italy in Transit," took place on February 10th and 11th, showcasing the collaboration among various institutions and highlighting the dynamic nature of Italian culture, identity, and migration. This symposium provides a platform for discussions on a wide range of topics related to Italy and the Italian diaspora, fostering a deeper understanding of Italy's cultural and social complexities.

Pinocchio is a classic character in children's literature, originating from the Italian novel "The Adventures of Pinocchio" by Carlo Collodi in 1883. The story follows the adventures of a wooden puppet named Pinocchio who dreams of becoming a real boy. Pinocchio is known for his long nose, which grows whenever he tells a lie.
The tale is entertaining and educational, teaching lessons about honesty, bravery, and the consequences of one's actions. Pinocchio is brought to life by the woodcarver Geppetto in a small Italian village. Despite Geppetto's loving guidance, Pinocchio often finds himself in trouble due to his naivety, curiosity, and tendency to lie, leading to various misadventures. Throughout the story, Pinocchio encounters a series of kind and deceitful characters, including the Talking Cricket (who serves as his conscience), the Blue Fairy (who watches over him), and the villainous Fox and Cat.
One of the most memorable aspects of Pinocchio's story is his transformation. His journey from a wooden puppet to a real boy symbolizes personal growth and redemption, reflecting the rewards of hard work, honesty, and the willingness to learn from one's mistakes.
Over the years, Pinocchio has been adapted into numerous forms, including films, television shows, and stage productions. The most famous adaptation is the 1940 animated film by Walt Disney, which has played a significant role in popularizing the character worldwide. The story of Pinocchio continues to be a beloved classic, resonating with audiences of all ages for its timeless themes and moral lessons.
