Across the Wire:
No women on the board of the Bce!

Why are not there women on the board of the Bce? The challenge was launched by the French Sylvie Goulard. Now a group of deputies asks an agreement on the nomination of a woman with recognized professional experience in monetary and banking sector.

They wrote a letter to President van Rompuy that, despite the desire of the European Parliament to nominate  a woman in  the Executive Board of the European Central Bank, has decided to nomination  the candidate Luxembourg Yves Mersch.

At this time the procedure was blocked by the Spanish Government.

The letter, sent for information to  Presidents Draghi, Barroso and Schultz, invite to initiate a dialogue with the European Parliament to reach an agreement.

At the same time, it was sent an urgent communication to  Premiers (Monti, Hollande, Merkel and Rajoy) asking them not to vote in favor of this decision, contrary to the opinion of the European Parliament.

The letter, on the initiative of parliamentarians Bonfrisco, Bonino, Concia, Gozi and Marinaro, was sent in the days before the European Council  (November 23/24) and had a date which has concentrated in the "international protest": Rome, Paris, Berlin, Madrid, November 19, 2012.

It is signed by 170 deputies and senators Italian, French, German and Spanish, with Italian and European personalities.
